Spotty child meets spotty ladybird.

This is a garage door that I snapped on my way to the supermarket. Something strange is going on though – in real life the bars are dead straight. Any ideas? I was walking but pretty much stopped to take the pic.

Welcome to the House of Pox. For the last 6 months I’ve either been off work, or had so little work to do that ten days at home with a poxed child would have been no problem (well, aside from the obvious issues of keeping both of us alive and sane). However C chose the week I start a new job to get it so it’s Daddy who has to be Chief Nurse and Entertainer. He’s doing a good job so far, in that they’re both still alive and mostly sane. Here’s to quick-forming scabs!

I’ve done a lot of travelling this week and was very, very glad to finally get home on Friday night. Even Bristol Parkway looked quite nice in the sun.

She’s worked out how to take photos on the iPhone which leads to some hilarious finds when I sync it. I hadn’t even realised she was taking photos when she came into bed for a cuddle and a feed this morning – this is one of the few I can show you.

Had an unexpected baby sitter tonight so went out for a last minute birthday meal. We went to one of our favourite local restaurants, which happens to be owned by our neighbours. Had a fabulous meal then a good gossip with the chef about Bristol restaurants.

I sit on one of the boards of the learned society that serves as my professional organisation – the Royal Society of Chemistry. This means I get a trip to Burlington House, in Piccadilly, at least twice a year.

Recently they refurbished the old, fusty, not-used-very-much library to create a space where members could research, work and meet in central London, as well as providing a flexible space for events. The building is listed so the changes all had to be approved (and strangely they had to keep the nasty additions of the 1960s, such as the ceiling) but one new addition was this fab bridge/walkway high above the www.flickr.com/photos/corylus/4707501960 (they’ve done better than the doors in the chemistry department that I used to work in which had pentavalent carbons through some embarassing triumph of art over science).

It’s such a fantastic space now and I’ll be using it lots.

Potty training in the modern age: Child, Peppa Pig potty seat, stool (usually used for teeth brushing) as table and iPad.

[in denial] I so don’t want to potty train. I was planning to leave it for nursery to do when she was nearly three and begging for it, but she seems rather obsessed with weeing and potties so the decision has rather been taken out of my hands. I still don’t intend to do any more than let her sit on the potty from time to time [/in denial]
